MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Assalamu Alaikum, may the peace and blessings of Allah (God) be with you all.

As we are immersed in the blessed month of Ramadan, we would like to express our profound gratitude to God for allowing us to continue our mission of serving humanity as a means of serving Him for the last 25 years. Our sincere thanks also to our thousands of supporters for placing their trust in our humble mission: Service to humanity is service to Allah (God). Yes, we are 25 years old this year!

We have designated this year as FEED CANADA in our continuing effort to raise awareness about the growing food insecurity across Canada. We also took this message to Parliament Hill in Ottawa where our young Project Ramadan team had been invited this April to build food baskets for the less fortunate alongside members of parliament and senators from across Canada. I would like to thank our dear friends, MP Omar Alghabra for sponsoring us and Senator Salma Ataullahjan for her strong support.

The increased demand that our food banks witnessed last year, has continued to grow which has seen our capabilities straining to cope to provide for the poor. Our food banks in Mississauga and Toronto have seen a significant increase in numbers due to over 9000 Syrian and other refugees requiring assistance. With challenges there have also been achievements, al-hamdu lillah (all praise be to god). A number of our projects, including Project Ramadan, Free Medical Clinics and School Nutrition Program are all marking their tenth year of successful operation.

Muslim Welfare Canada has continued to see the growth in the scope and size of our popular initiatives such as Project Ramadan, Regent Meals and Water Exploration. Following our core value of serving our fellow Canadians first, we are working on a number of initiatives to attend to the needs of our first Nations communities across Canada – we are planning to establish the second branch of our Arctic Food Bank in Iqaluit, Nunavut this fall, God willing. We are also continuing our efforts for sharing our story with you through social media platforms such Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

For the second year, Muslim Welfare Canada is continuing its effort to learn more about our donors and supporters. We want you to rate our performance, tell us which programs are important to you and how we can keep you informed about our latest efforts and accomplishments. If you haven’t filled out our survey online, please do share your thoughts with us as your feedback is very important. Your ideas will inspire us to do better and to continue the legacy of service without prejudice espoused by our founders 25 years ago!

We pray that Allah bless all of our donors, volunteers, supporters and well-wishers with the best of both worlds.
