Dhul Hijjah is one of the most essential and sacred months on the Islamic calendar. Muslims across the globe are preparing for various rituals performed this month. Therefore, there is an abundance of opportunities to gain reward with Allah SWT during this time, especially in the first ten days.
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” (Bukhari)
This month, complete as many good deeds as you can:
- Fast the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah
- Offer more prayer, and make dua.
- Spend time with the Quran
- Spend in the name of Allah SWT, give sadaqah or Zakat
- Prepare to give your Qurbani portions.
During this time, more than one million Muslims will be performing Hajj. This pilgrimage takes place during the first ten days of the month. Hajj is mandatory for all who can physically and financially perform the pilgrimage. However, for those who may not be able to attend Hajj, there is still a great reward for reciting the Quran or giving to charity. If you are giving charity, donate your Sadaqah or Zakat to MWC to end food insecurity in Canada.
Near the end of Hajj, those performing Hajj’s ninth day of Dhul Hijjah will travel to Mount Arafah, where the Prophet PBUH delivered his last sermon. This day is one of the best days of the entire year. It is a time of worship and dua for all Muslims at Hajj or not.
On the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah, we celebrate Eid ul-Adha, the “Feast of Sacrifice.” This day commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah SWT. However, as Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was about to sacrifice his son, Allah stopped him and provided a ram instead.
As part of Eid al-Adha, all Muslims can financially sacrifice an animal such as cattle, sheep, or goat. This animal sacrifice, also known as Qurbani, may be split into three parts:
- Feed your family
- Give to your neighbours
- Give to those in need
Regardless of who they are or where they live, everyone deserves to enjoy Eid al-Adha with their families. So this year, donate your Qurbani through MWC. When you donate through MWC, you have the opportunity to share your Qurbani portions with brothers and sisters in Yemen, Syria, Kashmir, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, the Rohingya Refugee Camps, and Canada.
Our neighbours right here in Canada face food insecurity, and this Dhul Hijjah, we need your help to feed those in need.
