Projects That Work

When you support Muslim Welfare Canada, you are helping our nationwide network of food banks deliver programs at the front line of hunger. Community based meal programs, food banks and distributions for elders.

Over the past 8 years, MWC has been working hard to ensure that every child is on the path to success. Our Fill A Backpack program prepares students from low-income families for a successful school year and provides them access to the same essential school supplies as their classmates. No child should have to miss out on learning because of factors they can’t control!

The Arctic Food Bank is a national non-profit initiative from Muslim Welfare Canada, focusing on improving food security for Canada’s First Nations in the Arctic North. In 2015, MWC launched the first Arctic Food Bank in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. In collaboration with the Midnight Sun Mosque, we set out to provide necessary non-perishable food and meat for indigenous community members in need. In the fall of 2018, we opened our second Arctic Food Bank to serve the community in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Since 2001, Muslim Welfare Canada has been combating homelessness in Toronto and Hamilton through its Meals on Wheels program. Despite being Canada’s economic hub, Toronto grapples with an estimated 5,000 homeless individuals daily. Every Saturday, year-round, volunteers assemble over 500 lunch bags for the homeless, distributing them at various shelters in downtown Toronto

At the heart of our community lies the Senior Meals on Wheels Program, a beacon of care, nurturing, and sustenance. Designed to cater to our respected elders, this initiative provides not just nutrition, but a holistic support system. In an age where many seniors grapple with isolation and nutritional challenges, our program steps in to offer regular, balanced meals, fostering physical health. But it’s not only about food. With every meal delivery, we bring warmth, companionship, and a reminder that they are cherished. Embracing values of inclusivity, empowerment, and compassion, we emphasize that in our community, every senior has a place at the table.

The Senior Meals on Wheels Program is designed for senior citizens who are unable to prepare or access food on their own. Offered by the MWC, this program operates in MWC Mississauga & MWC Scarborough. Those interested in benefiting from the service can register by calling either MWC Mississauga or MWC Scarborough. Once registered, senior citizens can receive nutritious meals delivered directly to their homes, usually twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. The overarching aim is to enhance the overall quality of life for senior citizens, addressing their nutritional needs and ensuring they maintain their independence and dignity in their own homes.
